Voting Day Series
Singing the praises of
casting one’s ballot on Voting Day
In days gone by, when a decision was made by his majesty the King, or by her majesty the Queen, the decision was a majestic one. Nowadays, when a man or a woman casts his or her ballot with full exposure to the complete 28-day writ period, the community decision on Voting Day is a majestic one.

![]() | 5) September 22, 2024 The Voting Day Series honours the ideal of the whole community (or 90% of it) voting on a single day, by featuring photos taken during this year's provincial MLA campaign. |
![]() | In British Columbia's general election #43, can the Conservatives overcome the NDP's funding advantage? The answer to this question will be known on a same-day basis for those who cast their ballot on Voting Day. |
![]() | Because our British Columbia results are announced by the end of Voting Day, there is little opportunity for manipulation of the count of the ballots cast during Voting Day. |
![]() | 8) September 25, 2024 The chart in this graphic is from a 2021 British Columbia Initiative Petition about One Day Voting. In 1988 and 1991, prior to the advent of ultra convenient early voting, turnout was in the 70% range. |
With the expansion of early voting since then turnout has been in the 60% range. It's almost as if making it easier to vote makes the process less significant.
![]() | 9) September 27, 2024 The story from 7 years and 2 elections ago, in Leah's own words: In 2017 the BC Liberals went into the election strong but public dissatisfaction was high. |
Ground zero turned out to be the riding of Courtenay-Comox where, like others across the province, Leah McCulloch woke up one day and said "enough" of the government mismanagement, "I have to run for office." With strong conservative values, of course she ran Conservative even though the party was leaderless. She and her team ran a strong campaign and earned 2,201 votes. On election night the NDP had won the riding by a measly 9 votes which triggered a month-long delay in calling the election while they waited for absentee ballots to be counted. In the end, the NDP candidate had 189 more votes than the Liberal candidate forcing Liberals to minority status and when the Greens partnered with the NDP the Liberal government fell. As we enter into the 2024 provincial election the Liberal/United party is running no candidates and the Conservatives are poised to win many seats. • • • • • • The Social Mavrik Federation is pleased to endorse the candidates running under the banner of the Conservative Party of British Columbia for a vote in 2024 because the Party announced in 2023 one of its six campaign themes as Parent's Choice - for which Social Mavrik has advocated since its founding in 2019.
![]() | 10) October 5, 2024 Paying for groceries and conversing at the checkout stand... Me (80-year-old male customer): "I don't mind paying the 25 cents, but I don't like the government telling your boss to charge it." Lovely young female cashier: "It's stupid." |
![]() | 11) October 6, 2024 A vote on the Saturday October 19th Voting Day is a fully informed vote. It's fully informed because it was made after last minute campaign surprises, if any, happened. |
![]() | 12) October 8, 2024 Ships of state in this world of ours are moving in the right direction. |
